The Baron's Charade (Regency Stories Book 3) Page 16

“I am the luckiest of men,” Daniel said. “Not every man is allowed to have his dreams fulfilled. Yet, I find myself having both of my dreams come true.”

Isabel felt that familiar stirring in her stomach, that pleasant heat that came with being in love. “Oh? And might you share what one of those is with me now?”

“By far, the most important dream is that I have you in my life.”

“And you are my dream come true,” Isabel said. It amazed her how her throat could still become parched when he looked down at her as he did at this moment.

“Daniel,” came a familiar voice from behind them.

Isabel turned to see Mariam saunter up to them, a wide grin on her face. “Hello, Miriam,” she said. “I see you are ready for your leading role.”

“That I am,” the woman replied. “I’m glad you were able to come to our opening night.” Then she turned to Isabel and kissed both of Isabel’s cheeks, and Isabel returned the gesture. “I’m so glad you’re here.”

They had become close friends since all that had happened two years earlier. As a matter of fact, they were closer than Daniel and Miriam had been, much to Daniel’s chagrin.

  “Wait up!”

They turned to see Elizabeth rushing up to them, her face flushed from her brisk walk.

“Should you be running in your condition?” Isabel asked with concern.

Elizabeth patted her enlarged stomach, a glow to her features. “I’m sure this youngster will be as hale and hearty as any of his Forthright ancestors.”

“Must you flaunt your friendship in front of me?” Daniel asked with a hurt look on his face.

“Of course we must,” Miriam replied as she gave Elizabeth a quick hug. Then she turned to Isabel. “Have not all of our dreams come true?”

“Oh, yes,” Isabel said readily, and Elizabeth shook her head in agreement, as well.

Then Isabel looked into her husband’s eyes. It was true; her dreams had come true. And later, seated in the audience, she watched Daniel take the stage, and she realized that, in love, his dreams were hers, as well.
